New county clerk voted for in Hawaii Island

The Hawaii County Council on Monday voted to approve a new county clerk.

Stewart Maeda is replacing Jamae Kawauchi, the county clerk who oversaw the August primary election when polling places had to stay open late.

Maeda was immediately sworn in to his new position. In a past statement, Kawauchi thanked the county for letting her serve, and wished Maeda the best.
