New highrise officially opens in Kakaako

Residents are moving into the newest high rise in Kakaako.

Honolulu Mayor Carlisle and Governor Abercrombie were on hand for the blessing and grand opening for the Pacifica on Kapiolani Boulevard.

The 48-story high rise took longer than expected to complete in part because its original developer ran into financial trouble.

A new developer, Oliver-McMillan, took over and now 97 percent of the building’s 489 condos have been sold.
