An ordinance to prohibit alcohol consumption at the new South Maui Community Park in Kihei went into effect this week.
Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa signed bill 76 on Tuesday. Councilmember Don Couch introduced the measure because the Special Management Area permit for the park already prohibits consumption of alcohol. Couch said the measure would increase public awareness of that prohibition.
