New playground opens in Ewa Beach

Kids in Ewa Beach now have a new place to hang out – literally.

This is the new Explorer Dome playground at the Ewa Beach Community Park.

It replaces an old playground that was torn out last year because the city said it was unsafe.

This play structure was paid in part by a $90,000 grant from the city.

The rest of the cost came from donations collected by the Ewa Beach Community Based Development Organization.

"We just said you know what we want to have a healthy community so  lets give them something different," said Christiane Bolosan-Yee, the Ewa Beach CBDO president. "We knew that we wanted to get an apparatus that would challenge our kids and do something different for them."

The Ewa Beach group hopes to raise more money to install another playground in the area.
