Newspaper salesman returns to work a month after being hit by car

Kailua drivers were greeted with a familiar face Sunday.

After nearly a month in intensive care and rehabilitation, George Ligman with his wife Jane was out at his usual spot of selling newspapers.

"I’m back," he said, beaming that signature smile.

Drivers couldn’t help but honk, wave and welcome him back.

"The horns, nice to see you George, bless you, Aloha, hi braddah’s, and all the waves that are going by now," said Jane.

George says he couldn’t wait to be back.

"Thank God for that."

He is touched by all the well wishes.

"It feels good, feels good yeah."

George spent weeks in the hospital after being hit, and it’s still sore for him to speak because of the breathing tube he had while under doctors care.

"I missed my friends, customers, I would see them every day," he said.

"The people have just given so much Aloha and that’s what Aloha is," said Jane.

She became overwhelmed with the show of support for her husband.

"Thank you for your prayers, thank you for your support, thank you for standing by thank you everybody from the bottom of our heart," she said.

It’s something George says he’ll be forever grateful.

"He won’t forget it," said Jane.

George is recovering well. The couple plans to be out again selling the morning newspaper Monday at 8:00 a.m. sharp.
