HONOLULU (AP) – A graduation ceremony is to be held for eight nonviolent felony offenders with serious mental illnesses.
The Monday ceremony is to be held in the Hawaii Supreme Court.
The Mental Health Court is a First Circuit Court program where nonviolent felony offenders undergo psychiatric and substance abuse treatment.
They are also surprised in ways including home visits, drugs tests and judicial review hearings.
The Hawaii State Judiciary says the program has zero recidivism among graduates.
This is to be the sixth graduation ceremony since the program began in 2005.
