It’s a lose-lose situation for Oahu farmers who grow “canoe plant” coconut palms and banana plants: The state’s spotty response to a proliferation of invasive coconut rhinoceros beetles led to this island becoming fully “infested” — and now that Oahu is infested, state assistance is minimal.
