Officials identify White Plains Beach surf competitor who died

The surfer who was found unconscious in the water on Saturday afternoon at White Plains Beach has been pronounced dead.

He was taken from the beach in critical condition to a hospital where he later died.

The surfer is identified as Perterson Burke, a 73-year-old Mililani man.

He was a competitor in the All-Military Surf Classic.

At this time, the Medical Examiner’s Office has not determined the cause of death.
