Mel Kinney, one of the sailors onboard the first Hokulea voyage in 1976, has passed away.
Kinney, who was the youngest of the crew that sailed from Tahiti to Hawaii, a big wave rider, and whose face appeared on the opening credits of the first "Hawaii 5-0" television series, died from a heart attack Tuesday.
He was 57 years old.
