Outrageous Rock Star Requests – Part Two

Rock star and pop star requests can be outrageous and ridiculous, but how does it affect your pocketbook?

“The one that’s been over exaggerated is the M&M’s…things like that don’t happen anymore,” Tom Moffatt said.

But you can bet your bottom dollar rock and pop star backstage requests are unique.

"A recent show that I had the star and his entourage consumed more champagne, Dom Perignon and Cristal, than any show I have ever had."

Once written in the performers contract as a way of making sure all the guidelines were met and the promoter was reading the document thoroughly…rider requests from artists can sometimes garner more attention than the performer themselves.

“Like Mariah Carey wanted a queen sized bed in her dressing room which we had to bring in so she could nap before the concert."

Its also been said that Mariah wants bendable straws, Madonna needs a new toilet seat at each venue and Nicki Manaj has to have roses and fried chicken.

Even the late great Whitney Houston had an interesting request.

"Whitney Houston wanted a room full of dehumidifiers to help her sing."

And some performers need to get their workout in no matter what.

"Ziggy Marley requested that he be able to practice and have a soccer game prior to the concert."

All of these requests are written in the performer’s contract most of the time the promoter pays for it and sometimes the artist foots the bill.

"Now the backstage rider can cost ten thousand dollars plus, so you know it affects ticket prices."

The request for food and snacks backstage has become a common occurrence now a days but a new trend is taking shape.

"There’s a lot more vegetarian dishes requested and nothing on the menu that has eyes."

And here in Hawaii musicians tend to seize the opportunity to eat our delicious local food.

"He said now more and more acts want to get local food like loco moco and friend rice and gravy on the rice ha ha."

Moffatt says after more than 5-decades in the business most but not all wishes have been granted…

“If we couldn’t get it I think the artist understood cause if it was not available in Hawaii that has happened but it was never a crucial situation."
