A colorful parade through Waikiki kicked off today’s annual Honolulu pride events.
The celebration continued at Kapiolani park.
There were speeches and entertainment at the bandstand and lots of pride, given the advances made over the past year for gay rights.
"Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell" was repealed on the national level and here in hawaii, the civil unions bill was signed into law.
"Our time is now arriving, the idea has come for us to be acknowledged and recognized and accepted," said Michael Golojuch, chair of Honolulu Pride. "It’s just a day for everybody to come out, be proud of who they are," he said.
The Honolulu Pride celebration wrapped up about two hours ago.
