A Kaneohe couple is mourning the loss of their son.
21 year old Jason Arruda was found laying in the middle of the road, badly injured Sunday night. He died yesterday.
Police have launched a failure to render aid case.
We spoke with Jason Arruda’s parents tonght. They say more could’ve been done to save their son.
"Parents are not supposed to be burying their kids," said Robert Arruda, Jason’s father.
Robert and Judilyn Arruda just lost their son Jason.
"He suffered a massive head injury on his right side temple with big road rash on his shoulder and back," said Robert Arruda.
Jason was found laying in the middle of Kamehameha Highway just after 8 o’clock Sunday night, near Wailehua Road in Kahaluu.
Robert says he spoke with the driver of the pickup truck Jason had been riding in.
He says apparently the driver, the driver’s girlfriend, Jason and his girlfriend went on a beer run.
"And in the process they fought, and my son Jason climbed out of the sliding window to get away from the girl. So I think he went out of the cab hands first body forward just to get away from her, and probably stood up when the truck was moving and the momentum will take you one way truck will go the other way. And when they got to the destination they realized the driver did that Jason was gone," said Robert Arruda.
Robert says Jason’s girlfriend admitted she saw him get out of the truck.
"Maybe he would still be alive if they stop right away. I don’t know it’s, I can’t believe it," said Robert Arruda.
Jason was taken to the hospital and passed away a few hours later.
He was only 21 years old.
"Him, just him in general. I know sometimes he irritates me but I’d like to see him irritate me one more time, just to see his face and tell him I love him," said Robert Arruda.
On top of this, Robert has been battling cancer for the past two years.
"You know I jump on his butt all the time about coming home late, and just the day before I got on him because he comes home late and sleeps all day, but these children don’t realize we do love ‘em. We just don’t want ‘em ending up something like this," said Robert Arruda.
No one has been arrested yet in the failure to render aid case.
Police are hoping other witnesses will come forward.
