Part-time worker at Kaneohe school arrested for child enticement

A part-time lunch supervisor at a Kaneohe Elementary school has been arrested for electronic enticement of a child. Douglas Lopez was taken into custody Thursday morning about a mile from the school campus.

Police say the 45-year-old suspect was picked-up during a sting after officers were tipped off to the place where he planned to meet a 13-year-old girl for sex.

The arrest happened around 8:30 a.m. at Zippy’s in Kaneohe near Windward Mall.

He was booked for first degree electronic enticement.

Police say he had been text messaging the girl for over two years, and those messages eventually became sexual in nature.

The suspect works at Benjamin Parker Elementary.

The school’s principal says he is a lunch supervisor in the cafeteria two days a week and has been employed there for about a year.

Parents say they are stunned by the arrest.

"I’ve done a lot of volunteering at the school in the past and I’m shocked," said Malia Morris.

"What else can you say it’s shocking it’s the worst thing to think that could happen in your own community right," said Ed Strickler.

The school and Department of Education is taking appropriate action.

The suspect is said to have had no prior complaints at the school.

He also worked as a security guard at Bishop Museum.

They said in a statement: "We have immediately suspended the guard in question while we investigate the situation."

Lopez was arrested and released pending investigation.
