Pharmacy burglary caught on surveillance video

A pharmacy owner is asking for the public’s help after his store was burglarized.

It was caught on surveillance video, and he’s hoping someone will recognize the burglar and/or his car.

It appears the burglar was after money, and not drugs.

Medical Center Pharmacy moved in to Aiea Shopping Center in January, a few doors down from Aiea Bowl, but has been around since 1988.

"We’re very top of mind about security. We have a lot of video security because of the nature our our business and we are a pharmacy," said Mark Gregory, Medical Center Pharmacy Owner.

This is what the cameras caught Sunday morning.

Just after 7 o’clock, a man parks his car near the pharmacy.

And for the next 20 minutes or so, he works on crowbarring the door open.

"This is fairly brazen. It’s right in daylight hours on a Sunday morning at 7:30," said Gregory.

Another camera captures the man entering the pharmacy.

"And he’s going to run down to the cash register area, jump over our counter than crow bar the cash drawer open," said Gregory.

He finally gets its open after about 20 seconds, then he’s out the door.

"They have a race against the clock. Once they break the security system, they basically have 30 seconds to get what they want before there’s a very loud alarm," said Gregory.

The man was long gone before security and police arrived.

He made off with $300 in cash, and did not steal any drugs.

"We’re kind of thankful, surprised in a way. But they were just going for the easiest and fastest thing. For drugs you would’ve had to be looking around plus mostly anything good is locked up," said Gregory.

This is the first time Medical Center Pharmacy has been burglarized in 25 years.

Owner Mark Gregory says he does not recognize the man in the video.

He estimates the man is about 5-feet-6-inches tall.

This incident has forced Gregory to change his store’s policy about how much cash they keep on hand.

"We won’t be leaving money overnight anymore," said Gregory.

If you recognize the burglar, or have any information that can help investigators, call Honolulu Police.
