Police use taser in encounter with seatbelt violator

A Honolulu Police officer used his taser after being shoved by a man who was being cited for a seatbelt violation.

Police say about 12:15 Wednesday morning, the officer saw the 26-year-old man driving without his seatbelt.

When the man stopped, the officer approached and asked for his paperwork.

Police say a few minutes later the male shoved the officer in the chest and started to run. After a brief foot pursuit, the man fell, and as the officers moved in to arrest the suspect, the male started to kick at officer, got to his feet and took a fighting stance.

Police say verbal commands to stop resisting were given and when the suspect failed to comply the officer deployed his taser.

The suspect was then placed under arrest without further incident.
