Popular eatery, "Downtown," closes

A popular downtown eatery served up its final meal Saturday.

Downtown at the Hawaii State Art Museum closed for business after lunch.
Governor Abercrombie was among the final patrons.
Chef Ed Kenney, who also owns Town Restaurant in Kaimuki says he wasn’t able to renegotiate a new lease here.

"For now we’re looking at it as an ending of one chapter and a beginning of a new one. Our goal is to reopen to pop up someplace else and provide what we’ve doing local, fresh, organic food for the downtown community," said Owner/Chef Ed Kenney.

Thirteen employees are affected by this restaurant’s closing. Many of whom will be moving over to Kenney’s other restaurant.
"Downtown" opened in 2007.
