While lawmakers are indicating their opposition to new taxes a new fee is being suggested. A measure moving on to committee in the house would impose a 20 cent fee for plastic shopping bags.
It would generate revenue for the state, and reduce waste. Counties that already have a bag law would be exempt. Other bills introduced include one to add a tax credit for teachers expenses and one to create farms for prison inmates to do agriculture work.
