Ranch owner pled guilty to guiding an unlicensed hunt

A Maui ranch owner pled guilty Thursday to guiding an unlicensed hunt.

Jeffrey Grundhauser admitted in federal court that he took an unlicensed hunter to shoot game animals.

He didn’t know the hunter was an undercover agent.
The case stems from an investigation into the trading of invasive species including axis deer and mouflon sheep.

"Nothing about today’s charge relates to transportation of animals to the big island," said David Hayakawa, Grundhauser’s attorney. "He was involved in a swap, no money, a swap of deer for sheep."

On Monday, a helicopter business owner pled guilty to transporting wildlife between Grundhauser’s ranch on Maui and the
Big island.

Grundhauser faces one year in prison and a fine of up to $100,000.
