Nguyen was believed to be driving home with her 16-year-old daughter when she was shot at the corner of Kapiolani Boulevard and Kapahulu Avenue. She later died at the hospital. Her daughter was not injured.
"That’s not right, that’s all I got to say that’s not right."
Neighbors say the mother of 10 children was a kind woman.
Allen Fortson says she went out of the way to help his young family.
"When we first moved in they brought us food, they told us if we ever need anything just come over," he said. "We need help they help us out. They’re super cool. She’s super nice. She let us borrow her washer when we never have."
Ngueyn’s family issued a statement this afternoon saying:
"Our mom was the kindest, most selfless person who always put others’ worries before her own. We will miss her dearly."
"She’s a good lady everybody likes her around the neighborhood," said Sina Tuisila who went to Kaimuki High School with Nguyen’s daughter, her youngest child. "Always around the yard. Always cleaning up. Just her, her plants and her family mattered to her."
She says the family was always together and very close.
"They always have their family outings they play tennis together that’s their family sport that’s why…good family," said Tuisila.
A good family who is suffering because of a random act of violence.
"Innocent he just shot anybody," said Fortson. "That’s one family he went destroy, that’s life right there can’t bring her back you know. There goes her kids yeah, no have one Mom."
Fortson says this morning’s shooting spree was truly a senseless crime.
"It’s crazy he could have come up Palolo, he could have ended up in Manoa, you could be walking on the street," he said. "It’s crazy because could be me and my kids were my neighbor was and that’s not right."
Nguyen leaves behind a husband and 10 children.
