Rare lion stars at this year’s 50th State Fair

The 50th Sate Fair kicks off Friday at Aloha Stadium and the excitement goes beyond the thrill rides and the games.

The featured attraction is Lufuno a rare white lion from Africa. There are only 200 of them in the world.

Trainer Brian McMillan will showcase Lufuno along with six other female lions. He says he’s able to train lions because he’s worked with animals most of his life.

"Lions have the same mentality I’ve got," McMillan explained. "Lions are, they sleep 18 hours a day. I can get behind that. I don’t want an animal that’s kind of hyper that I have to stay up with all day."

For something a little tamer, there are the racing pigs. The little ones run a short track and there’s always food for them at the finish line. The state fair runs every weekend through June 24th.
