Report: Air quality, soil near damaged Kahuku wind farm at safe levels

The results of environmental tests conducted after a fire at the Kahuku wind farm earlier this month have been released.

First Wind company says independent tests show soil and air quality levels are safe, and residents were never in danger.

The tests were done within 36-hours of the august first fire with oversight from the Department of Health.

The facility’s battery storage was badly damaged, forcing 12 wind turbines to go offline until further notice.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
