HONOLULU (AP) – The Canadian brothers and 9-year-old boy who were saved during a high-seas rescue will personally thank Coast Guard members in Honolulu who coordinated the effort.
Bad weather and mishaps left young West, his father Bradley James, and uncle Mitchell James drifting in their boat while sailing from Mexico to Hawaii.
They contacted the Coast Guard, which coordinated with a massive containership in the area. When the ship arrived, the sailboat bounced off it and two massive waves forced the big ship’s bow onto the sailboat, sending all three into the cold water. The ship’s crew eventually pulled them aboard.
They’ve remained in Hawaii since the arriving to Honolulu on the ship last week. On Wednesday, they’ll meet with the Coast Guard members who helped save their lives.
