It will affect traffic in the Ewa area, but there will be alternate routes.
Residents on Oahu and especially on the Ewa side have been dealing with intermittent lane closures along the proposed rail transit route for a while now.
But starting this Wednesday July 18, the first major road closure for the rail project will be happening along the Ewa plain.
We have had lane closures here and there before but this is the first big closure we have had regarding the rail project work.
Old Farrington Highway will be closed but not to build the elevated rail line but to move a water pipe a big water pipe.
Scott Ishikawa from the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transit said, "There is a 30-inch water main located on Old Farrington Highway near Kahi Mohala and for safety reasons it wouldn’t be prudent to counterflow to that area for the safety of the crews and drivers as well so we decided to close the section of Farrington Highway from North South road to Old Fort Weaver Road in Ewa.”
The closure is supposed to last only two weeks and thankfully there are alternate routes in the area such as North South Road, Kapolei Parkway or Geiger Road.
Along with traffic delays businesses and farms in the area may see some delays.
There will be access to Kahi Mohala from the East side coming from Fort Weaver Road. Folks who work at Aloun Farms we are going to give them so passes so they and their business vehicle can access the area.
The closure starts Wednesday afternoon with the road expected to reopen August 2.
