Bridge improvements will be made at Pelekane Drive Bridge No. 267 beginning Monday.

The work schedule will be from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Road users are asked to avoid unnecessary travel through the area or consider alternate routes when possible, otherwise anticipate delays.

The $353,300 project contracted to Global Specialty Contractors, Inc., with an expected duration of 300 calendar days includes: repairing cracks and spalls and repairing or replacing corroded steel reinforcing bases along the bridge deck soffit, bridge sidewalks, and abutment wall; extension of existing bridge railing; filling voids in the existing concrete rubble masonry wing wall at the upstream end of the abutment; and pumping concrete to fill scour holes along the abutment footings.

Global Specialty Contractors, Inc. is responsible for coordinating local traffic. Call them at 843-8881 with any concerns.

Work on the Kamehameha Highway Repair and Repaint Karsten Thot Bridge project will start Monday. Night work may consist of either single lane closures from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. weekdays or full closures of the bridge from 9 p.m.-4 a.m. weekdays.

The steel truss bridge was last repaired in 2012 to address environmental and age-related damage. It is anticipated to be complete by April of 2016, weather permitting.
