The winner of the Department of Education’s Hawaii commencement challenge was Roosevelt High School.
Public and charter schools were asked to submit essays to explain how they’re preparing students for college.
”We wanted to be sure that the students are ready for college their ready for their careers so all of the initiatives that we put in place,” said principal Ann Mahi. “Writing programs, our senior projects and all of those things that go on in the classroom become part of what we do to get our students college and career ready.”
Roosevelt will use the money to start a scholarship program and to purchase high-tech equipment for its new science lab.
Kahuku came in second place, followed by Kaimuki.
