Schofield soldier saves stab victim

A U.S Army EMT from Schofield Barracks and his father saved the life of a woman while they were golfing. The soldier was on leave in Florida.

Father and son Roger and Kevin Holt were enjoying a round of golf Sunday afternoon when they hit the tenth hole on the Holly Hill Riviera Golf Course they knew something was wrong.

"There was a man and a woman who were obviously arguing physically it began to get worse and worse," said Roger Holt, a good samaritan. "I looked at my son and I said should we go over there, he said, ‘Definitely, yes.’"

Police say  housekeeper 47 year old Diedre Ann Nightingale was attacked by  64 year old Michael Anselmo, just across the street from the golf course.  Police say Anselmo tried to make sexual advances toward Nightingale.  When she refused, they say he stabbed her once in the right part of her chest with a six inch kitchen knife, then they say he tried to cut her throat.

"The woman looked at us immediately and started crying," said Roger. "And said help me help me, and my son said ‘Step away from the woman, step away from the woman,’ when he turned around and faced us and he had a knife in his hand – my son for whatever reason brought a golf club with him."

"I handed my dad the golf club and took the woman to the side and just helped her out," said Kevin Holt, 25th Infantry Division.

Roger held Anselmo there using a golf club. Kevin, a US Army EMT did what he’s trained to do.  Roger and Kevin don’t think it’s by accident that they happened to be at the right place at the right time with the right tools.

"We believe it’s just God’s plan the way it works," said Roger.

Nightingale is in the hospital, but expected to make a full recovery. Anselmo is in the Volusia County Jail facing premeditated attempted first degree murder charges.
