There are lightning shows going on over Oahu from viewers stretching from Hawaii Kai to Makaha.
There have also been reports of flooding in Kahaluu and Kaneohe.
According to several viewers in Kaneohe and Kailua, hail is falling.
Otake Camp in Waialua is also being evacuated.
The City Emergency Operations Center was activated overnight in response to quickly deteriorating severe weather conditions.
Rising water levels in Kaukonahua stream resulted in evacuation of residents living at Otake Camp in Waialua. An evacuation shelter has been opened for Otake Camp residents at Waialua High and Middle School.
The shelter will remain open until residents can return home safely.
On the windward side heavy rains have caused flooding including a closure of Kamehameha Highway at Waikane Bridge. Residents are advised to take alternate routes to avoid the closure.
The Department of Emergency Management also asks motorists not to cross fast flowing streams or flooded roadways as these areas are extremely dangerous even in large vehicles. Remember; Turn around, don’t drown.
A landslide has been reported on Kamehameha Highway in He’eia between Hunalepo and Huna’ahi Streets. The City Department of Facility Maintenance has dispatched road crews to begin clearing the mud and debris. Drivers should use caution in this area.
Kamehameha Highway is also closed in both directions at Punalu’u near the Ka’a’awa Fire Station and Kualoa Regional Park.
The American Red Cross asks that anyone with a flood related emergency please call 9-1-1 and do not call Red Cross direct. If individuals need Red Cross assistance emergency officials on site can facilitate that request.
The National Weather Service also advises that Oahu residents can expect strong winds as high as 60-MPH affecting the Pearl Harbor area.
Multiple schools island wide have been closed Friday.
Those include, Rainbow School in Kaneohe, Hawaii Kai Church, Early Learning Center Preschool, Koolau Baptist Academy, Lanikai Elementary Public Charter School in Kailua, Calvery Preschool in Kaneohe, Kamaaina Kids Preschool in Kaneohe & Aikahi and Kamehmeha Preschools in Heeia, Waimanalo, Kahuku, Kahaluu, Anahola Kauai , Hana Maui have been closed Friday.
