There’s been another shark attack in the waters off Maui.
Wailuku firefighters responded to the waters off Waiehu golf course around 8 a.m. Sunday after getting reports that a shark bit a diver.
When crews got to the scene they found the 30 year-old male victim from Kahului onshore and conscious.
He suffered severe lacerations above his right ankle. It did not appear to be life-threatening.
The man’s diving partner pulled the victim back to shore. They had been in the water for about an hour when the victim felt something tug at his leg.
He estimated the shark to be a 15-foot Tiger shark. The attack happened about 500 yards offshore.
The men were participating in a diving tournament.
Department of Land and Natural Resources closed the beach from Round Table in Waihee to the Paukukalo River Mouth.
