RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – The Department of Defense says a soldier from North Carolina was among four who died of their wounds when enemy forces attacked their vehicle with an improvised explosive device.
A statement released Tuesday said 26-year-old Staff Sgt. Christopher R. Newman of Shelby died of his wounds on Oct. 29 in Kabul province.
Newman was assigned to Medical Company A, Tripler Army Medical Center, Hawaii.
