State tax collections up, but still down from last year

State tax revenue posted a strong month in April, led by a double-digit surge in hotel taxes.

Transient accommodations tax collections have soared nearly 25 percent fiscal year to date compared to the same period last year.

But the tourism recovery wasn’t strong enough to bring overall tax numbers into positive territory.

Total tax collections are down 2.3 percent, still feeling the impact of last year’s delay of tax refunds.

If those are factored out, general fund deposits increased 2.9 percent.
