Strong winds blow over Hawaii, showers continue

HONOLULU (AP) – After nearly a week of wild Hawaii weather that included lightning, hail storms and even a tornado, trade showers continue to fall as moisture from a dissipated front moves south over the state.

The severe wet weather appears to have subsided but lingering showers and strong, gusty winds are causing downed trees and power outages for the islands that have already seen sewage spills, flooding and other problems from relentless rain.

The National Weather Service issued a high-surf advisory for east-facing shores of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui and the Big Island until 6 p.m. Monday.

A wind advisory is also in effect until Monday at 6 p.m., with gusts of up to 45 mph.
