Police and firefighters responded to the Prince Kuhio federal building Wednesday morning after a suspicious letter was found in the mail room.
The letter was discovered just after 11:15 a.m. however no evacuations were ordered.
The fire department says the letter contained a white suspicious powder that was determined to be harmless.
Some congressional offices and media outlets have received similar letters in the past few days.
"Majority of the time throughout America these are hoaxes. We didn’t find any known hazards. Our field instruments are remarkably capable. Over the years we have been able to take advantage and improve these through purchases,” said Capt. Terry Seelig of the Honolulu Fire Department.
The letter had an Oregon return address similar to other suspicious letters received on the mainland.
