Teen coordinates concert for Oahu SPCA

After five years spent in and out of hospitals a Kapolei student is living life to the fullest. The high school senior is now dedicated to helping others.

"Its an intense pain, all day everyday and its nerve pain so it shoots down my spine down my left leg and then I have muscle pain in my left side," said Punia Sang, Kapolei High School senior.

The teen who was bedridden with fibromyalgia, myofacial pain disorder, nerve damage and epilepsy six years ago is doing much better now.

She thanks drug therapy and therapy dogs for her recovery.

"So whenever we would have animal therapy it just made me feel better it made me wanna smile," said Sang.

Now the Kapolei resident who wants to be a nurse one day is giving back to other four legged friends by planning a benefit concert for the Oahu SPCA as her senior project.

"All I am asking is that as an entry fee bring a donation such a pet food, pet snacks, pet toys or even old sheets towels and blankets that you don’t want anymore," said Sang.

A former contestant on Hawaii Stars, Punia and several other friends and bands will perform at the concert along with showcasing local vendors, food booths and a raffle.

"The fact that she can do it on our campus I think that’s even a bigger thing we’ve always believed that we’d like to be the hub of the community," said Elden Esmeralda, Kapolei High School principal.

The concert is on Saturday, Oct. 6 from 2-5 pm at Kapolei High School. If you’d like to help, email puniaseniorproject@hotmail.com
