It was only four days ago when we first introduced you to a Waipahu teenager who was forced to come up with his bucket list after being diagnosed with terminal cancer. This weekend, he got to cross one thing off the list.
Tiloi Junior Mamea, who goes by the name "Teejay," has been spending most of the past month resting and hanging out with family and friends.
Doctors told him on March 15 that he had a tumor growing on his brain stem. He was diagnosed with stage four brain cancer.
"They told us that it’s malignant and that it’s aggressively growing and they don’t know how much time he has left," said Jocelyn Mamea, Teejay’s mom.
"I was scared at first," Teejay said. He’s only 14 years old.
This weekend he crossed something off his bucket list: stay at a hotel and swim in its pool.
It was made possible by a Kailua woman, Jory Purdy, who saw Teejay’s story and wanted to help. She paid for him and his family to stay at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki for two nights.
"He’s gotten blessed with the hotel stay," Jocelyn said.
"Just you know, relaxed, sleep and swim," Teejay said, talking about his hotel stay.
He’s had to deal with a lot of grown-up issues over the past month, but this weekend, he just got to enjoy life as a kid again. "I just want to say thank you. I had fun over there," Teejay said.
Some of the other things on his bucket list include meeting Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, a trip to Disneyland, eating pizza from New York, visiting Fun Factory for a day, and playing at Wet n’ Wild.
His moms says they’ve been getting a lot of calls from other people offering to help, and she’s grateful for the outpouring of support.
