Tour diverted after protesters take to water

On Molokai, dozens hit the water in protest.
The group formed a line off of Kaunakakai Wharf Saturday morning on boats and surf boards.
They stopped the American Safari Cruise from reaching the port.

"They came right up to us and stopped and in about an hour and a half they started backing up turned around and left," said Molokai resident and protester Walter Ritte. "We’ve been fighting 30 years to keep it rural. We’ve been fighting development, hotels for 30 years. So the reason they’re coming is because the way it is."

American Safari Cruises operates large luxury yachts in Alaska, Mexico and the Pacific Northwest.
It added Hawaii to the list last month.
The company says it’s disappointed with the protest and plans to hold a community meeting this coming Wednesday.
