Drivers might want to avoid the UH Manoa area over the next few days, specifically around the residence halls.
That’s because starting tomorrow, thousands of students will be moving into their dorm rooms.
It’s move in week at the UH Manoa residence halls. And some businesses in the area are just as anxious as the freshmen are about the new school year.
"Can i get a steak plate? Steak plate sure, that’ll be $7."
Jeremy Lee says he can’t wait for classes to start up again.
‘It’s actually a real big difference, it’s really slow during the summer," said Jeremy Lee, Blue Truck Teppanyaki.
Blue Truck Teppanyaki parks on University Avenue, across the UH Architecture School.
"Most of our customers are students from UH. People from the dorms come here because we’re here till 8," said Lee.
On Tuesday morning, students will begin moving in to Hale Aloha, Hale Laulima, Hale Kahawai, Gateway House, and the newly renovated Johnson Hall, which got a $6.7M facelift.
Monday, several hundred students, including Kristianne Agusto, took advantage of early check-in.
"We get to help out with move in and in turn we get to move in earlier, beat all the rush and everything," said UH Junior Kristianne Agusto.
Nearly four thousand students will be moving into the dorms, so UH officials are warning drivers — traffic will be very heavy in the area.
On Tuesday, from 9am to 3pm, the eastbound lane of Dole Street in front of Johnson Hall will be coned off so that people can unload their things.
Then on Thursday, students checking in to Hale Anuenue, Gateway House, and Frear Hall will have to use Lower Campus Road from 8am to 5pm.
The final move-in day is Friday.
And the fall semester at UH Manoa begins next week Monday.
