KOKEE, Hawaii (AP) – A Minnesota man and his adult son had to be airlifted to safety after they became lost during a hike near Kokee.
Kauai police say the 49-year-old man and his 21-year-old son called for help around 5 p.m. Friday when they were unable to find their way back to their starting point while hiking on what they thought was the "Ditch Trail."
The hikers had a GPS device and were able to relay their coordinates to dispatchers, which helped in directing a rescue helicopter to the area.
After locating the lost hikers about two hours later, rescuers airlifted the two men to safety.
Neither man was hurt. Their names have not been released.
The rescue comes after four young men had to be airlifted out of the Poomau Canyon Lookout Trail on Sunday after they became lost on what was supposed to be a day hike.
