The University of Hawaii at Manoa held a first of its kind virtual graduation for 22 students on Friday night.
Just like in the real world, the students got to walk across the stage and receive a diploma from the faculty.
The world they’re in is called Second Life.
UH has a number of parcels of land in Second Life, including some look-alike buildings modeled on the real Manoa campus.
Many of the students here were part of the well-established distance learning program.
"You’re thinking in a plane of length, width, and depth. And it’s a totally different thing to think three dimensionally as a learning experience," said UH graduate, Catherine Aki.
Part of the reason for having the ceremony online was so friends and family of the distance learning students could attend.
