UH Regents discussing Wonder concert, Donovan behind closed doors

The University of Hawaii Board of Regents is meeting in executive session at this hour to discuss the investigation into the botched Stevie Wonder concert, and the reassignment of former Athletic Director Jim Donovan.

The meeting at Windward Community College started with public testimony. Some who spoke asked for Donovan to be reinstated as AD, since the university says he was cleared of wrongdoing in the Wonder concert. Instead of reinstating him to serve out the rest of his contract, which expires in March 2013, he was reassigned to another directors position at the university, with the specific job title still unannounced.

In a letter to students Tuesday, Greenwood says campus officials started searching for a new AD ahead of learning that the school had been scammed. She says two separate issues collided and became entangled in the public’s perceptions.

UH officials are expected to release details of an independent investigation into the Wonder concert debacle, which cost the university $200,000 that had been paid to a concert promoter, sometime today.
