United Airlines Flies Nonstop from Washington D.C. to Honolulu

We say "aloha" to some new visitors who made a first of its kind flight today.

These folks are getting off a plane that travelled directly from Washington’s Dulles airport to here.

It is United’s newest daily leg and the only direct flight between Honolulu and our nation’s capitol.

Tom Brower, state representative of the Waikiki, Ala Moana and Kaka’ako districts, said that "over half of our visitors from the mainland are from the West Coast, so we’re really looking to open up more markets on the East Coast."

Mike Navares, the general manager of airport operations at United said that the flight "from Dulles to Honolulu is about 10 hours and 25 minutes."

Important to know, state tourism officials believe that the new route could bring in $135 million in visitor spending a year and an additional $14 million in tax revenue for the state.
