UPDATE: Man hospitalized after apparent stabbing in Waikiki

Kalakaua Avenue and Pau Street at the beginning of Waikiki turned into a crime scene Tuesday.

"It was absolutely insane. I don’t know how it started but from what I saw two local guys were trying to restrain that white guy who was trying to stab him," said witness Stephen Hayes.

Around 10:30am, Hayes was stopped at the intersection and saw the brawl first between two men, then a third man jumped in to the mix.

Honolulu Police say the fight led to a 25 year-old man being stabbed, and a 20 year-old man beaten with a baton.

"They were yelling and they were screaming and he was asking and yelling for his buddy to come help him," said Hayes. "People were in awe they couldn’t believe it, couldn’t believe what was going on right in front of them."

Honolulu Police say all three men knew each other. It’s believed the man who was stabbed and his cousin came to the area together, then got into the argument with the 20 year-old man who was said to have a knife.

"It looks like they were trying to disarm but I didn’t realize they were hitting him at the same time, I didn’t even realize there was a guy underneath the two until I saw the knife in his hand," said witness Rodney Miyasato.

Honolulu Police recovered a knife at the scene, that was tossed into the bushes at the intersection. Further down Pau Street, officers located a baton in a dumpster.

HPD arrested 29 year-old Michael Chun for Second Degree Assault. Police believe he was the one who used the baton on the third man, then drove down the street before returning to the scene to check on his cousin who had been stabbed.

"He stabbed him pretty good because there was blood all on the back of his shirt," said Hayes.

The man who was stabbed and the man who was beaten were taken to a local trauma center. Honolulu Police say they may also face assault charges, but the investigation is ongoing.

Chun has not been charged.
