The accident happened at about 8:45 Sunday night. Danforth-Moore was taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition where she later died.
A statement from HPU says Danforth-Moore was crossing in a marked crosswalk, and was pronounced dead at Castle Medical Center a short time later.
"On behalf of HPU, we offer our sincere condolences to her friends and family on this terrible accident. It is always tragic when we lose a member of our HPU family, especially at such a young and promising time of life. Our HPU ‘ohana grieves with Mariah’s family and friends, and our counselors are working now to help students, faculty and staff to deal with this tragic accident," said HPU President Geoffrey Bannister, Ph.D.
HPU psychologists and counselors are available to counsel HPU students and other members of the HPU community.
At about the same time, police were called to the intersection of Kapiolani Boulevard and Kamakee Street in Kakaako for another pedestrian accident. Paramedics took a man in his 50′s to the hospital in critical condition. Police arrested the 48-year-old driver. He was booked on charges of driving without a license and negligent injury.
