Waikiki sand project moves into new phase

The Waikiki sand replenishment project has moved on to its next phase.

The barge is sitting off shore, the beach is blocked off, the equipment has been tested…and the pumping of sand is underway.

24-hundred cubic yards of sand will be brought from under water off-shore and used to widen Waikiki Beach.

The east Kuhio swim basin and part of the beach are off limits until the end of March while the project is underway.
