For the past 15 years landowners in upcountry Maui have had to put their names on a waiting list in order to get a water meter.
Tuesday the Maui County Council received a plan that engineers have been working on for the past year and half.
The plan includes improvements to the island’s infrastructure.
"0ne of them is Waikamoi flume," said Rod Antone, Maui County spokesperson. "It’s an old flume. There’s a lot of leaks everywhere I mean a lot of leaks. Once that gets finished that’s going to help. It’s not going to be a solution all by itself but its going to help and deliver more water."
If approved, implementing the new plan would cost $500,000.
