Wildfire burns 80 acres in Waikoloa

A wildfire burned about 80 acres below the Paniolo Estates on the Big Island Saturday.

It started at about 11:30 a.m. By the time fire crews arrived, the fire had already burned about three acres.

Strong winds and tough terrain to reach the head of the fire enabled it to spread close to an apartment block.

The fire was contained at 2:00 p.m. The cause is under investigation, though it may be a possible unauthorized burn.
