Residents along busy Likini street are amazed more homes didn’t burn during a house fire Wednesday night.
There isn’t much left of the home completely destroyed by a fast moving fire, that even significantly damaged a neighboring house.
"And I actually ran up there and tried to get everybody out as best I can," said Ross, who witnessed the blaze. "Me and my dad was just shooting down houses with water, but it was too big. So we moved to the next house, and got people out of the next house."
Ross and his buddy Jace rushed in to help.
"I was going to go help, and then when I got closer to the house it was like big," said Jace Andaya. "There was like ashes everywhere. And black smoke everywhere."
So bad Andaya said he suffered an asthma attack. The thick smoke and quick moving flames could be seen for miles. It made it difficult to make sure everyone was clear of trouble.
"It was kind of chaotic, people going back in the house," said Ross. "It was kind of crazy."
Fortunately no one was injured. But one cat was killed by the fire.
"I tried to do what I can," said Andaya. "What I did was just water my house, and al my neighbors was watering the neighbor’s houses."
The total damage to both homes was estimated at more than 500-thousand dollars.
Fire investigators are still trying to determine a cause.
