A 40 year-old Wahiawa man was killed when he was hit head-on by a wrong way driver on the H-2 Freeway Saturday morning.
It happened at 2:20 a.m. on the north-bound direction near Ka Uka Blvd.
Police say a 21 year-old man from Waianae, driving a 1992 white BMW was heading the wrong way when he collided with a silver Tacoma truck driven by the 40 year-old man.
The pickup truck flipped on its side. The BMW hit the median.
Police say a third vehicle, a 2005 Jeep driven by a 58 year-old Mililani man was traveling behind the truck and was unable to stop in time and struck the pickup on its side.
Police say the 40 year-old man died at the scene. The driver of the BMW was taken to the Queens Medical Center in critical condition. The driver of the Jeep was also taken to Queens, with serious injuries.
Police closed the freeway for about four hours to investigate. It’s unknown whether speed, drugs or alcohol played factors in the crash.
Police say the accident is the 47th fatality compared to 53 at the same time last year.
