Young local falsetto singer moves up in Idol

There was cheering in Kaneohe Thursday night as a young man who dances with a local hula halau made it to the top 25 on American Idol.

Deandre Bracksensick, 17, made it past the hollywood week and the Las Vegas performance round to make it to the semi-finals.

His friends from the halau gathered at Taco Del Mar at Windward Mall to watch Thursday night’s show.

"Tonight was amazing. His falsetto voice is amazing. He’s getting better every day. I saw him last year on Idol. He did so good," said Leilani Wilson, one of Deandre’s friends.

On last year’s Idol Brackensick failed to make it to the top 24.

He’s supposed to compete in this year’s Merrie Monarch competition but his kumu says he should stick with Idol if he makes it far enough.
