During the past week, local gas prices declined in some areas and ticked up in another for the second consecutive week, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Today, the statewide average for regular unleaded is $4.19 a gallon, three cents less than a week ago.
Honolulu’s average price declined over the past week by two cents from $4.08 to $4.06 a gallon. Honolulu’s price is seven cents less than a month ago and 69 cents higher than this time last year. In Hilo, the average gas price is $4.34 a gallon, up a penny from last week, three cents more than last month and 78 cents higher than this time last year. Wailuku’s average is $4.43 a gallon, unchanged from last week, the same price as last month and 55 cents higher than on this date last year.
Hawaii’s state average continues to lead the nation today at $4.19 a gallon followed by Alaska at $4.03 and California at $3.84. The current national retail average price for a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline is $3.44.
