The war on terror in Afghanistan continues with the deployment of 300 marines and sailors from Kaneohe Thursday.
It was the first wave of deployment from the 3rd battalion, 3rd regiment.
By next week, a thousand of them will be on their way to train afghan law enforcers.
For the troops and their loved ones, the most difficult part is being apart from each other.
"My newborn baby will be here in December so I have to leave that, my house and my family so it’s tough but we’ll make through it,” said Cpl. Nicholas Abshire.
"I don’t know, you just learn to deal I guess, you learn to be on your own without him,” said Michelle De Costa whose husband is deploying.
The deployment will last about seven months.
